Shock Pulse Measurement (SPM)

Bearing damage monitoring system

The roller bearings in the centrifuges are monitored continuously using an SPM system. Shock – impulse sensors (B) and bearing damage detectors (E) are installed at each bearing and connected to a connected to a central alarm (C).

Pressure waves (shock impulses) emitted by damaged or worn bearings are picked-up by the sensor, converted into an electrical signal and transmitted via a co-axial cable to the bearing damage detector. An alarm is triggered if the signals from the sensor exceed a set limit more than once every 10 seconds.

Vibration Monitoring

Centrifuges are subject to vibration due to uneven loading or other operational problems. Vibration sensors mounted on the base frame or near bearings transmit acceleration signals to an analyzer that triggers an alarm at 80 % of the permissible vibration limit or trips the centrifuge upon reaching the full limit value.

Temperature Monitoring

Bearing temperatures are constantly monitored in Flottweg centrifuges by means of an electric controller (1) and resistance thermometers (2). Appropriate safety barriers (3) are provided for centrifuges operating in explosion hazard areas. Upon exceeding pre-set temperature limits, the centrifuge is shut down. This preventative measure safeguards against bearing failure.
