SEDICANTER

Flottweg

Cross-section of a Flottweg SEDICANTER - Separation of soft solids from a liquid

Applications for the SEDICANTER include the separation of so-called "soft products" such a biomasses, yeast sus- pensions, protein suspensions, fermentation broths, CIP, cleaning liquids, etc.

Technical Features :

  • Up to 10,000 x g centrifugal force possible to facilitate the separation of very fine, slow-setting solids.
  • Uniquely designed feed distributor and bowl seal to prevent foaming in the product inlet zone.
  • Gastight machine design.
  • Cleaning - in - place provisions available to meet pharmaceutical industry standards.
  • PTFE rotor seals available for critical applications.
  • Newly developed SIMP-DRIVE optional.

Centrifuge Cleaning

Flottweg

Centrifuges must always be flushed Clean before shutdowns.

Depending on the application, various cleaning systems may be incorporated into the centrifuge design.

1. Cleaning of Centrifuges for Standard Applications.

For the majority of applications in waste water treatment or in the separation of crystalline products it is sufficient to flush the centrifuge before shutdown through the feed pipe to remove deposits of solids. The flushing time and the type of clean- ing fluid are product-dependent. In most cases the use of a solids-free centrate will be adequate. Additional rinsing nozzles for cleaning the housing, the bowl exterior and the scroll interior can be installed, if re- quired.

2. Cleaning of Centrifuges for Pharmaceutical, Biotechnological and Food Processing Applications.

Flottweg has designed its centrifuges for the pharmaceutical, biotechnological and food processing industries to meet even the highest demands for cleanliness. Re quirements and specifications for design, manufacturing and testing are compiled in a binding company standard.

Characteristic features of such centrifuges included:

  • all welds are ground to meet specific sanitary finish standards.
  • all product contacted parts are provided with a surface finish in accordance with specified roughness values.
  • the process areas are designed to eliminate dead space for minimal product build-up and total liquid drain.
  • flushing and rinsing nozzles are provided for the centrifuge housing and for the interior of the scroll body.
  • the centrate impeller is adjustable to facilitate flushing of the bowl
  • frequency-controlled drive allows operating the centrifuge at low tumbling speed to create liquid ring turbulence for a better cleaning effect.

Other optional features are:

  • electropolished scroll, housing and bowl surfaces
  • special hygienic housing seals
  • electrically reversible scroll rotation for enhancing the cleaning effect during the low-speed cleaning step.

Generally, Flottweg centrifuges are designed for continuous operation and donot need to be opened for cleaning. They can be integrated into plant-wide CIP systems.
