Being the world number one shrimp exporter, Thailand can produce this economical marine creature more than 200,000 metric tons annually on more than 500,000 rai of production areas lying along the eastern and western seaboards of the gulf of Thailand, the Andaman sea coast line and some areas in the central plain.

Shrimp farmers have recently faced a problem on shrimp cultivation because farming shrimp is not an easy practice and it require closely nurture care, especially during feeding time which is labor intensive and not being able to estimate an exact daily consumption, since overfeeding can pollute the water.

The Department of Food Technology of Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) has successfully developed an automatic shrimp food dispenser to meet the farmer's needs that helps increase production efficiency , reduces production cost, and decreases water pollution from farm waste.

An automatic shrimp food dispenser composes of four main parts, which are 1) dispenser unit, 2) feeder unit, 3) installation unit and 4) electrical controller unit.

The dispenser unit is powered by a ? horse power motor which can broadcast shrimp food up to a 10 meter radius and adjust rotation speed with an in verter. This is not a complex machine ; therefore, it is easy to built and has consistent feeding performance that can cover a wide area.

The feeding unit is a screw feeder type with an adjustable feeding system that is accurate and simple and has less crushing pellet problem. The machine is powered by a 20 watt DC power motor and the pellet feeder can be adjusted by a voltage regulator.

The installation unit can be stationed every 20 meters along the pond's edge. Each unit it connected to an electric power source and a central unit that controls timing and pellet quantity. In covering an area of a rai, only 3-4 sets are recommended and the pond needs not be in symmetric shape and size. The machine is easy to install and operate. TISTR is currently testing the machine efficiency in order to gather information to improve the machine to a more perfect one.
